Professional Workshops

Overview Lecture – This workshop is designed for professionals who are new to the field of autism. Topics for discussion include an in-depth overview of the diagnostic criteria for autism, Asperger’s Disorder and PDD-NOS as well as a brief discussion of treatment strategies and components for an effective educational program.

The Overview of Autism lecture is presented three times per year by COSAC staff; once each in the northern, central and southern regions of New Jersey.

Topic Lectures – Topic lectures are designed for professionals who are familiar with autism and behavioral teaching techniques. Past lecture topics have included: Managing Behavior Problems; The Use of Incidental Teaching to Facilitate Language; Effective Teaching Strategies For Language Acquisition and Discrete Trial Teaching.

These lectures are presented multiple times per year across the state. Lectures are presented by COSAC staff or guest speakers who have expertise on the specific topic.

Medical Grand Rounds – This service is designed for doctors, nurses and other health care providers interested in increasing their familiarity with autism, PDD-NOS and related developmental disorders. This service is conducted on-site at the agency, usually during a weekly or monthly staff meeting, and is presented by medical professionals specializing in pervasive developmental disorders.

COSAC’s Annual Issues in Autism Conference – One of the largest autism-related conferences in the nation, Issues in Autism draws more than 1,300 attendees over a two-day period. With more than 50 workshops, 40 exhibitors, a Poster Session, an Awards Presentation & Reception, and more, Issues in Autism provides educational opportunities for parents and professionals alike. This event is held each spring at the Atlantic City Convention Center in Atlantic City, NJ.
