Workshops

COSAC provides lectures on topics pertinent to autism and related developmental disabilities, usually arranging for guest speakers with expertise on specific topic areas to present lectures. Past lecture topics have included: how to evaluate your child’s progress, managing stress in the family, addressing challenging behaviors at home, teaching social skills to children and adolescents, and adult services.

COSAC also offers workshops on advocacy-related topics such as educational rights, components of an appropriate educational program, accessing services (e.g. respite care, residential programs, family support services, adult day programs, and Social Security benefits), advocating on your child’s behalf, means of short-term support, and estate planning.

COSAC’s Annual Issues in Autism Conference – One of the largest autism-related conferences in the nation, Issues in Autism draws more than 1,300 attendees over a two-day period. With more than 50 workshops, 40 exhibitors, a Poster Session, an Awards Presentation & Reception, and more, Issues in Autism provides educational opportunities for parents and professionals alike. This event is held each spring at the Atlantic City Convention Center in Atlantic City, NJ. For more information about the conference, contact Conference Director Madelyn Schiering at [email protected].

The Issues in Autism Conference and all workshops are advertised on the COSAC News & Events page, in UpDate, COSAC’s monthly newsletter, and through mailings to those on COSAC’s Parent Mailing List. Also, be sure to visit the Other Community Events page to read about the many other educational opportunities available.
