Research Participants Wanted

Mediators of Motor Skills and Praxis in Adults with Autism Spectrum Disorders: This study is interested in the comparison of motor skills in three groups of adolescents and adults ages 18-40. The groups include individuals with high functioning autism & Asperger’s Disorder, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) Combined Type, and individuals without disabilities. Participants will have an initial screening visit which includes a psychiatric and medical evaluation by the study psychiatrist to make sure that they can enter into the study. An intelligence test will also be administered as part of screening. Once this
information is gathered, the treating clinician will determine whether the individual is eligible. Participants are required to be medication free during the screening and evaluation process. Once eligible, 1-2 additional testing visits will be scheduled. During the visits, a neurological exam, a neuropsychological evaluation of coordination and movement, and cognitive neuropsychological testing will occur. The neurological exam looks at basic motor functions such as reflexes, walking, and coordination. The neuropsychological evaluation includes completing puzzles and copying actions involving more than one step. The cognitive neuropsychological test evaluates memory and attention.
